The single pan-European emergency number 112 is operational in Latvia, but it is not the only emergency number in use. It co-exists with 02 for police, 03 for ambulance and 01 for fire department The emergency service is organised in 27 PSAPs at level 1 and 54 PSAPs at level 2, all organised at the regional level.
As the system overview illustrates below, Latvia can currently receive and handle E112 calls. The location information pushed by the telecom operator to the level 1 PSAP is mainly used to select and route through voice communication the call to the appropriate level 2 PSAP. From there the accident information is transmitted through both voice and data to the emergency service vehicle using SFRS 7 frequency.
