Intercontinental Cooperation

Research, development and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems that deliver safe, clean and efficient transport is a world-wide activity.  Consequently Intercontinental cooperation between ITS experts is useful to exchange experience and results, strengthen synergies and avoid duplication of work.  The eSafety Intercontinental Cooperation Working Group aims to improve the implementation of recommendations made by other eSafety Forum Working Groups by harnessing these benefits.  The Working Group coordinates activities and supports dialogue at international level and  identifies working items from other Groups where this type of cooperation is lacking or should be strengthened, in which case it makes the necessary recommendations to accelerate the exchange of information on priority topics and suggests ways forward. There are different ways in which intercontinental cooperation can take place – exchange of information, workshops, conference attendance, fact finding missions and site visits.

The ICWG is currently consulting on priority areas for it to address but some topics which might well feature in the 2008 work programme are:

• eSafety  Business Models
• Interdependency of privacy, security, anonymity
• Research to use eSafety techniques for energy efficiency / environmental benefit
• Vehicle-based Safety Systems
• Infrastructure-based /Cooperative safety systems
• A register of field operational trials and assessment processes
• HMI and driver behaviour
• Mobility services
• Traffic management
