Research and Technological Development The development of the Intelligent Vehicle Safety Systems still requires further RTD in a number of technologies. The critical task is determining the priorities for further research based on analysis of accident causes and the impact of potential countermeasures. The focus of the Research and Technical Development WG is to identify, formulate and determine the priorities for further research. Coordinating with the national research programmes and promoting the European Research Area (ERA) is a must, as well as reinforcing overall international cooperation efforts. As a contribution to the EC’s FP7 work programme on ICT for Mobility, the WG issued a report in November 2006 — subsequently updated in December 2007 — that included recommendations of the stakeholders. The WG also made an inventory of the need and justification of international R&D Collaboration. The findings were given as recommendations for FP7, as well as used to set the priorities for international collaboration in the ICT R&D domain.
