Helsinki IST Event to feature Intelligent Transport Systems

The European Commission seeks commitment to support an intelligent transport systems sessions during the Information Society Technologies (IST) Event in Helsinki, Finland, November 21-23 2006. Workshops will cover vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications, education and training, data fusion, and support for elderly drivers.

 

André Vits, head of the Information and Communications Technology for Transport Unit at the European Commission's Directorate General for Information Society and Media (DG INFSO) has issued an appeal for participation by the intelligent transport systems (ITS) industry in the Helsinki event. The ICT for Transport Unit is supporting a series of sessions during the event. These include:
• The Internet-connected car  - defining a roadmap toward communication convergence
• Education and training supporting ITS deployment in Europe (Etnite)
• Human-centred design for ITS: a road safety issue (Humanist)
• Transport information services in Europe - intelligence on the vehicle or infrastructure side
• Technology and design features to enhance older driver safe mobility
• Sensor data fusion

 

"These sessions will only be retained if sufficient interest is demonstrated by stakeholders," warns Vits.
